Meeting Notes 5/26/11 - NCVDC Web Presence

A small group met at Perkins+Will and started the rework of the Website and the blog. As you can see, there is a pressing need for a Webmaster!!!

Our goals are pretty simple: at a minimum there are three objectives we would like to address:
- Potential new users need a Web page where they can go to learn about the group and sign up.
- Existing members need to get some meeting summaries so that we publicize the good stuff that
is happening as a way of increasing participation.
- Everybody needs a definitive list of meeting dates and planned topics.

Meeting Notes 4/28/11 - BIM Plans

BIM Management Plan (BMP)
April’s meeting topic was BIM management Plans and project team collaboration. Creating a BIM Management Plan is a crucial step to successfully implementing BIM on a project because it clarifies BIM goals and expectations for the project team early on. Participants were asked to bring their BMP documentation to the roundtable discussion.
Here’s a brief list of important things we came up with:
• The plan should address the expectations of the client.
• The plan should be finalized at a Project Kick-Off Meeting with all members of the project team present.
• The kick-off meeting should address the project goals and modeling responsibilities of the project team.
• The project team’s goals should reflect the BIM expectations and project goals of the owner.
• The owner’s expectations and goals for BIM should be clearly expressed at project inception.
• Owners should host a Pre-Negotiation BIM Standards Orientation for the project team to outline project requirements and express their goals.
• Addressing BIM modeling responsibilities at the kick-off meeting ensures that work is not duplicated across disciplines and provides the project team with a clear understanding of the expected level of detail for the model.
• The project team’s goals should be considered when defining a project’s modeling responsibilities.
• Addressing what software and software version will be used on the project at the kick-off meeting is necessary.
• Addressing the frequency and method of file sharing at the kick-off meeting is important.
• Addressing file ownership rights and liability concerns at the kick-off meeting is necessary.
